Melissa - VMR
Outstanding!
Melissa graduated in 1999 from Ridgetown College with a degree in Veterinary Medical Receptionist (VMR). She started working at Waterloo West Animal Hospital in 2000 and has been a superb appreciated addition to our family. She has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 2000. She has attended numerous continuing education sessions with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) and the AAHA since 2000. She completed the Hill’s seminar on Hospital Management in Guelph Ontario in February 2009. She attended the Medical Nutrition Life Stages lecture in Kitchener Ontario in September, 2009.
She has two pets, her dog Clyde and her cat Teeks.
She and her husband welcomed their new baby girl Ruth on October 18, 2009.
Her favourite pastimes prior to her new charge were snowmobiling in winter, the occasional ice fishing, long walks with Clyde and playing on her Dart Team.

Jen graduated from Ridgetown College in 1995 with her veterinary technician degree and became a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and a member of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) in 1995.
She has been one of our pillars at Waterloo West Animal Hospital since 1999. She has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 2000. She attends annually the OAVT conference in London, Ontario and was at the AAHA conference in 2000. She has completed her certification in Advanced Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in April 2008 and Cytology in November 2008 through Lifelearn in Guelph, Ontario. She has attended numerous continuing education sessions with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) and the AAHA since 2000.
She has three cats, Churchill her Silver Tabby boy, Winston and Thatcher her Brown and White Tabby boy.
She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and has personally helped many owners with their continued pet care through direct assistance and client education.

Caroline - Receptionist
Versatile and Helpful!
Caroline (aka Carol) has been with Waterloo West Animal Hospital for one year. She has had many years experience in the pet health care field, 13 years in total! She has also been involved with the human health care side for 25 years both working as a much appreciated volunteer in our community. She is a certified PSW (Personal Support Worker).
She has 3 children and 8 grandchildren and is a very proud Grandmother! She has 3 dogs; Thor, her King Shepherd boy, Billy, her smooth coat Brussels’ griffon boy and Lilly her newly mothering Brussels’ Griffon with 6 PUPPIES! Congratulations! She has 3 parrots; MacTavish, Moluccan Cockatoo who is famous for his commercials for Telus on Television!, Riley, her African Grey, boy and Cleo, her Orange Wing Amazon girl. She has one cat named Midnight, she is domestic short haired female. Her husband boasts one ball python named Lexie named after their granddaughter.
She enjoy in her personal time (we are not sure when she has time for that) painting, pets, volunteering and taking her dogs for nice walks.
Shannon - RVT
Phenominal!
Shannon graduated from Ridgetown College in 2000 with her veterinary technician degree and became a Registered Veterinary Technician and a member of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) that same year.
She grew up in Northern Ontario but moved to London to practice in Equine Surgical Medicine for many years. She accepted her position at Waterloo West Animal Hospital in 2005.
She has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 2006. She attends annually the OAVT conference in London, Ontario. She has completed her certification in Advanced Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in April 2008 and Abnormal Haematology in June 2008 through Lifelearn in Guelph, Ontario. She has attended numerous continuing education sessions with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) and the AAHA since 2006.
More recently she completed the Hill’s seminar on Hospital Management in Guelph Ontario in February 2009. She attended the Medical Nutrition Life Stages lecture in Kitchener Ontario in September, 2009.
She is particularly interested in nutrition and completed the Veterinary Nutrition Advocate Certification through Hill’s in 2007 and in October 2009 attended the Purina Nutritional Seminar in London, Ontario.
She has many pets of her own and still fosters rescued kittens and some very young orphaned animals until they can be adopted to their new homes or be released frequently for the Humane Society. Her own family consists of many rescued kitty cats; Angel white with brown tabby girl, Karma her calico tabby, Merlin her Brown Tabby boy, Mia her female Manx cat, Trouble her red and white boy, several rescued ferrets; Rerun and Woodstock and her dogs Zodiac and Hugo rescued from School and Bismarck AKA Buzy her female e Australian Shepherd. The latter 3 keep her well exercised on walks daily.
She purchased her first home in 2008! Congratulations! She has been busy this year with the pets, spending time with her young nieces, the most recent was born on November 11, 2009, baseball during the summer months and currently renovating slowly her new home without the dogs helping with the painting decorations! They seem to have their own opinions of what is more ecstatically pleasing than the humans.
Charmain - RVT
Fantabulous!
Charmain graduated with Honours in 2008 from University of Guelph from their Veterinary Technician program. She has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since 2008 and a member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 2010. She has completed the Veterinary Nutrition Advocate Certification through Hill’s in 2008.
She completed her first aid training in 2008. She is experienced with small animals and exotics. She started working here at Waterloo West Animal Hospital in 2010. Welcome Charmain!
She recently got married on June 26, 2010 and she and her husband just purchased their first home together. She has a dog named Winnie, a shih Tzu cross, 10 year old girl. She is looking forward to taking her girl for nice long hikes on their new property.
She enjoys in her spare time attending Truck Pulls, reading, cooking, baking, working on and maintaining Web sites and walking Winnie, not necessarily in that order! She also enjoys knitting, crochet and sewing.
Jennifer - Groomer
Exceptionally artistic!
Jennifer graduated from the Pet’s Beautiful Inc. Canine Academy of Professional Grooming in London, Ontario in 2000.
She has been working at Waterloo West Animal Hospital since she graduated helping to beautify dogs and cats daily.
She has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 2000. She has been a member of the Canadian Kennel Club of Canada since 2005. With her interest in showing and breeding Championship Standard Bred Poodles, she has been a member of the Poodle Club of Canada since 2006. She is also a member of the Ontario Dog Groomer’s Association which helps with continuing education and promotes good dog grooming and pet care to the public.
She has three Canadian Champion Standard Bred Poodles; Cheeky (chocolate), Memphis (black) and Paris (white). Cheeky recently had an article written about her after winning a Poodle Club of America Championship in the United States. Memphis and Paris are currently retired from their breeding program and Cheeky is carrying on the Championship torch.
Jen has had her own home since 2006 and it doesn’t need any renovations thus she isn’t getting any doggy help with painting!
She loves sewing and makes dog coats for the canine population and catnip toys for the feline population.
She adopted in 2009 a baby Indian Ringneck boy named Beaker who is growing well but still has a couple of years to go through his teenage stage before achieving adulthood.
