Dr. St. Pierre

Dr. St.Pierre graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Montreal in 1988.

During 1985 and 1986, while still a student, Dr. St.Pierre researched on the cardiac vasculature of the Beluga and published two papers in 1986.  Dr. St.Pierre also gave lectures on these topics at the Biennial Biology of Marine Mammals conference in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1986.

During the summer of 1985 Dr. St.Pierre attended the Aquatic Veterinary Medical Course (Aquavet) at Wood's Hole in Massachusetts.

Dr. St.Pierre founded with two other veterinary students the Veterinary Medical Facility for UQROP, the Raptor Medical and Rehabilitation Facility at the Veterinary College at the University of Montreal in 1987. It is still doing well, attending injured Birds of Prey and after their rehabilitation permitting their relocation for a normal life thanks to one of the other original founders, Dr. Fitzgerald, now a professor at the Veterinary College at the University of Montreal. Public donations, student and professor volunteers have been essential in the continuation of this wonderful and rewarding project.

Dr. St.Pierre moved to Toronto in 1988 and worked at the Toronto Zoo, continuing in her interest in wildlife and exotic medicine. After graduation and ran City Cat Clinic and assisted in the running of The Cat Doctor. Both of these clinics dealt with a special interest in feline only medicine.

From 1990 until 1997, Dr. St.Pierre worked at several small animal veterinary hospitals with particular interest in dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, pocket pets and birds.

During 1993-1994, Dr. St.Pierre volunteered weekly to prepare and record episodes for a short television pet care and veterinary information show for children for TV Ontario (TVO).

Since 1997 Dr. St.Pierre is the owner of Waterloo West Animal Hospital.

Dr. St.Pierre holds special certifications through the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph (OVC) and Lifelearn in Ultrasonography, Endoscopy, Radiology, Feline Medicine, Pocket Pets, Laser Surgery, Clinical Pathology, multiple Orthopedic Surgeries and Advanced Echocardiology. Dr. St.Pierre has completed her certificates of Professional and Advanced Veterinary Homeopathy through the Animal Natural Health Center with Dr. Pitcairn. These are the highest level of advanced training in veterinary homeopathy offered currently in North America. These courses are accredited by the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy towards certification for Veterinary Homeopaths. Dr. St.Pierre has also taken continuing education in Dental and Oral Surgery for Pets and Intra Oral Dental Radiology with Dr. Hale at Hale Veterinary Clinic in Guelph, Ontario. Dr. St.Pierre completed courses in Veterinary Emergency Medicine in 2008 in Toronto, Ontario through the International Veterinary Seminars. Dr. St.Pierre completed in 2008 further courses in orthopedic surgery through Innovative Animal Courses on new techniques for surgical reduction of fractures and Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) in Toronto, Ontario.

In 2006, Dr. St.Pierre passed her examination for certification for the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society. This is a new certification the VSLS has established that year to ensure the public knows the veterinarians that hold this certification are continuing their laser education and are qualified for laser surgical procedures. It is one more way that the VSLS is trying to protect the public by ensuring that qualified and certified veterinarians will be recognized and have the owners pet’s best interest in mind during any laser surgical procedure.

On April 15, 2005, Dr. St.Pierre attained her EAPD Certification through horsepower productions. This is an Equine-Assisted Personal Development Certification that helps instruct the public to improve themselves and their pets-not just the Equine ones.

"A horse's respect, trust, focus and willingness is only earned when a human learns to balance their predator-based behaviors with the horse's prey-based behaviors. What a horse needs to see in the one it willingly elects as its leader, be it horse or human, is the same character traits we want to see in ourselves. Learning to be the better horse translates literally, not just metaphorically, into becoming a better person." Chris Irwin. This is also very helpful with the various breeds and types of animals that chiropractics can effectively be used with.

Dr. St.Pierre has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 2000 but has attended several of their conferences since 1990. Dr. St.Pierre has been a member of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario since 1988, of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association since 1988, of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association since 1988, of the Association des Medecins Veterinaires du Quebec since 1989, of the Golden Triangle Veterinary Medical Association since 1997. Dr. St.Pierre is a member of the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy as well as the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society since 2003. In 2005, Dr. St.Pierre became a member of both the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association and American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Dr. St.Pierre is accredited in animal chiropractics by both the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association and American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Dr. St.Pierre is also a member of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.

During 2000 until 2003, Dr. St.Pierre was a volunteer for "Dogerloo". This committee has successfully organized legal and safe off leash dog parks in the city of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener. Legal off leash dog parks have been successful for many years in cities around to world. It provides an excellent area for dogs and their owners to exercise an excellent use of parkland. It is also security and peace of mind for local residents with the knowledge that they won't be disturbed by dogs roaming unsupervised in their neighborhood, as will tend to happen when there are no legal areas for our canine friend to go safely off leash to play and exercise.

Dr. St.Pierre also has been a volunteer veterinarian for the Ferret Aid Society in Toronto, Ontario since 2003. She has also volunteered her time for the FAS to teach first aid courses for the ferret volunteers and the ferret owners.

Dr. St.Pierre has also donated time to schools and humane society for continuing education of our youngsters and assisted various organizations with talks on traditional and adjunct medicine fields such as homeopathy and chiropractics to help our furry, scaly and feathered friend.

Dr. St.Pierre is a current volunteer for the American Animal Hospital Association for assisting pet owners in their “Ask a Vet” forum.

Dr. St.Pierre strives through the current practice and continuing education to excellence in veterinary medicine to better serve your pet(s) and their needs, to hopefully enrich your life through your bond with your loved one(s) and a better understanding of your pet(s).
